Neuropsychologist, the specialist who can help you understand and test your brain.

Thanks to technology and science, today’s doctors and specialists can analyze, test and measure almost every part of the human body and its functions, even the mysterious and complex brain. Actually, there are different brain-related specialties, and one of those is the Neuropsycology. A neuropsycologist is a clinical psycologist trained to identify and treat neurological disorders like Parkinson’s, Stroke, Adult ADHD, Brain Injury, Learning Deficits, and Dementia, among others. Even though the terminology may sound very complicated, reality is that depending on the test to be performed, your session with a neuropsycologist shouldn’t be intimidating. Remember that we are talking about psycologists with an advanced training in the assessment of brain functionality and behavior, and they are just ready to make you feel comfortable and safe. Then, the question is who should consult a neuropsycologist? Contrary to what many people think, brain-related conditions and diseases are not exclusive to older people or those with a hereditary history. If you have an already diagnosed condition that can affect the brain, like Parkinson’s disease. If you had an injury, such as a concussion, if you have been exposed to chemicals or substances that can cause brain damage (Poison, drugs, alcohol), or if you have presented symptoms that make you think that something in your brain is not working properly, is definitely a good idea to look for a professional opinion. Your visit to the neuropsychologist shouldn’t be different from visits with other doctors, so prepare yourself by taking notes with questions, concerns or comments that you would like to address during your visit. Make sure you eat and rest before so nothing affects your testing or consultation. Now, what kind of tests are performed by the neuropsychologist? It depends on each case, but they are basically designed to evaluate your brain functions and limits. Some of them may include specific questions, organizational, linguistic, memory or reasoning tasks for you to perform. Although, some of the results may be available immediately afterwards, in general, it may take a few weeks before you receive complete results from your specialist. Don’t worry, the terminology may sound complicated, but a good specialist would make the difference for you. Make sure to choose someone with the proper training and credentials. If you have questions about this topic, don’t hesitate to contact us. Remember that at Hallandale Medical Center we are here to serve you.

HALLANDALE MEDICAL CENTER AWARDED PRIMARY CARE MEDICAL HOME

Hallandale Medical Center today announced that it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH) Certification. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting optional standards demonstrating a commitment to patient-centered care. The certification is a special add-on option for Joint Commission-accredited ambulatory care organizations.

Hallandale Medical Center underwent a rigorous on-site survey in June 2015. During the review, a Joint Commission expert surveyor evaluated the center’s compliance with standards related to how effectively the primary care clinicians and the interdisciplinary team work in partnership with patients to provide comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centered care.

Established in 2011, The Joint Commission’s PCMH Certification, awarded for a three-year period, encourages accredited ambulatory care organizations to ensure patients receive timely and appropriate treatment. PCMH Certification can potentially result in increased patient satisfaction, improved patient outcomes and reduced overall costs to the health care system.

In addition, PCMH Certification provides ambulatory care organizations with the processes needed to improve patients’ access to care. It also encourages these organizations to focus on educating patients and showing them how to self-manage their illness or condition.

“Ambulatory care organizations that pursue PCMH Certification from The Joint Commission are demonstrating the highest commitment to delivering quality primary care in the ambulatory setting,” said Michael Kulczycki, executive director, Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation program, The Joint Commission. “I commend Hallandale Medical Center for successfully achieving this certification and for its dedication to become a quality improvement organization.”

“Hallandale Medical Center (HMC)” is delighted to receive certification from The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation,” added Victoria Samuelson, CEO of HMC. “By achieving PCMH Certification, we are operating within a framework to provide better care that is coordinated and tracked to allow for an effective interdisciplinary team approach.”
